The United States will send nearly $2.5 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine, President Joe Biden said Monday. He said he will continue to work to strengthen Ukraine’s position in the war while he is in office.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also announced Monday that the United States will provide $3.4 billion in economic aid to Ukraine. The money will also be used to pay salaries for education, health care, emergency responders and government employees.
The Biden administration is working to put Ukraine in the best position to negotiate with Russia before Trump takes office on Jan. 20. Trump has been pushing for a deal with Russia, and European allies are concerned that such a deal could hurt Ukraine. Under the Biden administration, security assistance to Ukraine, including current assistance, has totaled over $65 billion.
