Southern US Blizzard Continues

The first winter storm of 2025 is bringing strong winds, snow and freezing temperatures to many parts of the US East Coast. The storm is expected to move into warmer southern states on Tuesday.

The southern states, which are usually spared from winter cold and blizzards, are also in for a cold snap. South Florida could freeze on Tuesday, with wind gusts as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius possible in parts of the state, including Texas, along the Gulf Coast, the National Weather Service warned.

A low pressure system could form over southern Texas early Wednesday, bringing snow to parts of southern Texas, including Dallas. Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana could also be hit by snow and freezing temperatures.

Hundreds of accidents reported in Virginia, Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky

At least 430 crashes were reported in Virginia on Sunday and Monday, including one fatality, according to state police. Kansas also reported two fatal crashes.

More than 2,300 flights were canceled and at least 9,100 were delayed due to the storm, according to the website FlightAware. Washington’s Ronald Reagan Airport was operating at 58 percent of its capacity and 70 percent of its capacity.
