US President Joe Biden delivered his farewell address at the White House on Wednesday, five days before his term ends and five days before President-elect Donald Trump is sworn in.
In a letter released Wednesday morning, Biden reflected on the COVID-19 pandemic and the January 6, 2021 attacks on the US Capitol by Donald Trump supporters seeking to overturn the 2020 presidential election that he won.
In the letter, Biden said that four years ago, we were all in a winter of both opportunity and danger. But together, we Americans got through it. We emerged stronger, more prosperous, and more secure, Biden said. President Biden’s farewell speech came the day after special counsel Jack Smith, who indicted Trump for attempting to illegally continue to hold power after the 2020 election, released his final report.
