President Biden offers condolences to New Orleans residents after deadly New Orleans attack

President Joe Biden attended a memorial service for the victims of last week’s New Orleans, Louisiana, attack, and praised the resilience of the people of New Orleans.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jay Biden attended a memorial service late Monday for the 14 people killed and 35 injured in the New Year’s Eve attack.

“These events are shocking and heartbreaking, and we stand with you in prayer and honor you,” President Biden said.

Earlier Monday, President Biden and First Lady Jay Biden visited the site of the New Year’s Eve attack, where First Lady Jay Biden laid a wreath.

In the early hours of New Year’s Day, January 1, Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old veteran of Houston, Texas, drove his car into a crowd of people celebrating, killing 14 people and injuring 35 others. A shootout with police ensued, and the suspect, Shamsud Din Jabbar, was also killed.

Shamsud Din Jabbar had posted five videos on social media supporting the Islamic State group, the FBI said. An ISIS flag was also found on the car he was driving.
